BEMBIT BAG-ROOK CENTRE A NEW COMMUNITY HUB FOR TARNEIT

05 October 2022

A new community hub will be well-positioned to provide critical services to Tarneit’s fast-growing community thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne joined Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly to officially open the new Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre, backed by Labor Government investments worth $5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund and Building Blocks Grants program.

The new $20.9 million Centre includes a family area with early learning facilities and consulting suites, as well as an outdoor barbeque area, basketball and netball courts and a playground.

The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation worked with Wyndham City Council to name the Centre – in the Bunurong language Bembit” means flower and Bag-rook” means women.

Through the Growing Suburbs Fund the Government continues to invest in critical infrastructure projects in the Wyndham area, recently announcing support for a redevelopment of the Galvin Park Football Cricket Community Pavilion and a new family recreation space at Alfred Road Reserve.

Since 2015, the Government has invested $425 million in local infrastrcuture in Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs, including $45 million towards 30 projects with Wyndham City Council.
