Passengers will be able to get on and off trains at Williams Landing station faster and easier, thanks to upgraded readers on myki gates. 

Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly said upgrading the myki readers to the faster, next generation model will allow for a quicker entry and exit for the thousands of passengers using the station every day. 

The recently installed readers come with an updated information display giving passengers clearer information as they pass through the gates.  

Williams Landing opened in 2013 and is already one of the metropolitan train network’s most popular stations, with almost 6,000 passengers daily. 

Locals will also benefit from the removal of the nearby level crossing at Aviation Road, with construction on the road bridge ramping up. 

Removal of the busy level crossing means no more queues at the boom gates for the 7,000 drivers who travel through the crossing each day. 

The first stage involves construction of the new road bridge over the Werribee line, construction of a new shared-use path along Maher Road, on-road bike lanes and a pedestrian path on the bridge, and some improvements to the Aircraft Station forecourt area on Triholm Avenue. 

The level crossing will be removed by early 2020. 

The upgrade to the station comes as works ramp up on the Metro Tunnel, which will cut travel times on the Werribee line by up to ten minutes a day for passengers when it opens in 2025.
