The Victorian Government is working with Hobsons Bay, Brimbank and Maribyrnong councils, communities and industries to reduce dust pollution and improve amenity in Melbourne’s west.
Member for Laverton Sarah Connolly today visited Brooklyn North where work is underway to seal the southern end of Old Geelong Road, including a turning area and new intersection to cater for a landfill facility.
Residents, bike riders and pedestrians who use the nearby Federation Trail will also benefit from improved air-quality as part of the $5m road-sealing package from the Victorian Budget 2023-24.
New street-lighting and landscaping work is also planned to improve recreation for trail-users.
Project planning at Altona North is well-advanced, where sections of Ross Road will be upgraded and new on-road parking bays provided at the Paisley Park soccer complex.
A new shared path will also be built linking Blenheim Road and Mills Street, along with fencing between the road and rail line providing safer access to community and sporting facilities.
In Yarraville, Francis Street from Whitehall Street to Spotswood Pier will undergo sealing works to create a smoother, safer road for the growing local community.
The local road works follow on from recommendations from the Air Pollution in Melbourne’s Inner West – taking direct action to reduce our community exposure report.
The Inner West Air Quality Community Reference Group assembled representatives from the community and councils to investigate and better understand local air pollution issues across Melbourne’s inner west in the Brimbank, Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong local government areas.
The Victorian Government is investing $20 billion in transformational projects across Melbourne’s west, making it an even better place to live and work.
