Residents in Melbourne’s outer west will benefit from improved emergency services with a new fire brigade and fire station now operational in Tarneit.
Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly MP and Member for Western Metropolitan Region Kaushaliya Vaghela MP visited the site on Monday night to welcome the CFA’s newest brigade to the community.
The Tarneit Fire Brigade was formed to meet the rapidly growing community in Tarneit and surrounding suburbs, with career firefighters transferring from the existing Hoppers Crossing facility.
The Hoppers Crossing station will remain operational and service delivery is not expected to be impacted.
The $5.4 million Tarneit fire station has four engine bays and modern facilities for up to six career firefighters per shift, as well as the latest emergency management equipment including a heavy pumper and heavy tanker.
The new facility will also allow for trained personnel and equipment to provide Emergency Medical Response (EMR), in partnership with Ambulance Victoria, to ensure community members suffering suspected cardiac arrest are treated as fast as possible regardless of who attends first.
There are now more than 40 CFA brigades across Victoria providing this lifesaving service.
Last year, the Hoppers Crossing Brigade attended 1696 call outs, which is expected to grow with major infrastructure developments projected for the Derrimut area and continued housing growth in Tarneit’s residential area.
The Tarneit Brigade will become part of the Mount Cottrell group and will support busy brigades including Werribee, Wyndham Vale and Point Cook as well as Caroline Springs and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
The new fire station is part of the CFA Growth Programs, an Andrews Labor Government commitment to improving service delivery at integrated fire stations through significant investment in recruiting 350 career firefighters, building and upgrading infrastructure, and better utilising existing workforce arrangements to support population growth.
