PALMERS-ROBINSONS ROAD INTERSECTION UPGRADE COMPLETED

03 December 2020

Drivers in Melbournes west can now enjoy a faster and more reliable journey through Truganina, thanks to a major upgrade of the Boundary and Palmers-Robinsons Road intersection.
The new intersection is one of 18 to be upgraded on Palmers Road between the Western and Princes freeways. Seven of these new intersections are being upgraded to signalised intersections.
As well as the intersection upgrades, drivers will benefit from two extra lanes in each direction between the Princes Freeway and Sayers Road and two extra lanes in each direction between Boundary Road and the Western Freeway. An extra lane will also be added in each direction between Sayers Road and Boundary Road.
A new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians is being built over the Palmers and Sayers Road intersection as part of the upgrade to the Federation Trail part of more than 50km of cycling and pedestrian paths being built across the Western Roads Upgrade.
Palmers Road is an important north-south corridor that connects the Western Freeway in Truganina to the Princes Freeway in Williams Landing, carrying 20,000 vehicles each day.
It also connects residents in Melbournes growing outer west to Williams Landing shopping centre, bus services and the Williams Landing train station.
The upgrade of Palmers Road will improve journey times, slash congestion, improve freight links and keep cyclists and pedestrians safe from busy traffic.
The Western Roads Upgrade is improving eight major roads across Melbournes west to make it quicker, easier and safer for all road users. It will give local businesses opportunities for growth, improve access to jobs and boost safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
The upgrade includes the resurfacing of 37 roads to improve quality and safety, and the maintenance of more than 260km of road from Footscray to Werribee for the next 20 years.
More than a thousand workers have helped deliver the Western Road Upgrade, with those workers having contributed more than 4 million hours since construction started in late 2018.
Minor works will continue at the Boundary Road and Palmers-Robinsons Road intersection over the coming weeks and this may result in some intermittent slip lane closures.
The Governments $1.8 billion Western Roads Upgrade is being delivered by Major Road Projects Victoria.
