The Andrews Labor Government is supporting the creation of a colourful new mural in Tarneit, as part of a two-year commitment to suburban revitalisation in the area.
The mural has been painted by Melbourne artist George Rose at the Tarneit Gardens Shopping Centre. The contemporary mural artist uses bold colours and designs and has received recognition for her work across Australia, claiming the 2020 Resene Total Colour Visual Art Award and 2019 Street Art Australia Prize.
The large-scale work will improve public space, boost COVID-19 recovery and celebrate Wyndham City Councils diverse natural ecosystem. The mural design aims to recreate Tarneits geographical landscape, with floral patterns and colours being used to energise and uplift the area.
The mural will attract pedestrians to the area through its visual appeal, contribute to place-making initiatives and foster connectedness in the area.
The Andrews Labor Government is providing $35,000 to this important project and Wyndham City Council is contributing $15,000.
The project is also being delivered in partnership with the Tarneit Suburban Revitalisation Board chaired by Member of Tarneit, Sarah Connolly, which provides advice to the Victorian Government on ways to renew Tarneit. It supports the delivery of projects that will improve public space and amenity while supporting local jobs and stimulating local business.
The Suburban Revitalisation Program recently began supporting new projects in six activity centres in Metropolitan Melbourne including Boronia, Noble Park, Lilydale, Tarneit, Reservoir and Melton.
This adds to previous investments in Broadmeadows and Frankston, bringing a total of eight activity centres into focus through the program.
The Suburban Revitalisation program works with regional and local stakeholders to help plan and deliver economic, infrastructure, community development and place-making initiatives that focus on driving social and economic outcomes in specific activity centres.
Funding of $21.25 million over two years has been provided to the eight boards through the Building Works Fund, and the 2020-21 State Budget.
