Millions of free meals cooked by Foodbank Victoria have been delivered to students during remote learning thanks to the Victorian Governments School Breakfast and Lunch Clubs program.
Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly virtually met with leaders at The Grange P-12 College, Tarneit Senior College and Baden Powell P-9 College as well as Foodbank Victoria today to discuss how schools were delivering the program during the remote learning period.
Delivering more than 2.5 million meals in Term 2 and Term 3 to students during the coronavirus pandemic across the state, schools are taking unique and tailored approaches to providing healthy food to their communities.
This has included handing out school holiday supply packs, delivering meals to students homes and making up packs with extra products to give to families in need of additional support.
The School Breakfast Clubs program provides free and healthy breakfasts to students and has been expanded to offer lunches as well as school holiday supplies to students who need them. This ensure that students can learn on a full stomach.
Since beginning in 2016, the program has delivered over 13.4 million free and healthy meals.
A total of 1000 government primary, secondary, P-12 and special schools set to benefit by the end of 2020.
Its part of the Victorian Governments commitment to ensuring children from disadvantaged families can fully participate in their learning at school, and build happy and healthy lives.
