SMOOTHER JOURNEYS FOR TARNEIT AND TRUGANINA

03 April 2025

The Allan Labor Government will soon begin delivering upgrades to Derrimut Road and Boundary Road Intersection, making the journey smoother for drivers in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

These improvements will see improved traffic flow and deliver a safer intersection, which will connect thousands of drivers to the Western Freeway in the north and the Princes Highway in the south.

Planning and design works are underway for upgrading the Derrimut, Hopkins and Boundary roads intersection in Tarneit and Truganina as the project moves towards construction.

Detailed planning includes onsite investigations such as testing ground conditions, developing the design and the build approach, and getting planning approvals. Improvements will see traffic moving smoother along this key route, which experiences large traffic volumes during peak and as a key freight route for industrial sites nearby.

The Labor Government is investing $18.6 million which will see the permanent traffic lights installed, dedicated right-turning lanes on all intersection approaches, shared lanes to go straight or turn left on Boundary and Hopkins roads and a dedicated left turning lane on Derrimut Road.

As site assessments are underway, timelines for major construction will be announced once our planning is further progressed.
